6 In a Row For Manchester City
Manchester City were held to their 6th consecutive draw by Liverpool at Anfield. The first 18 minutes saw two more Liverpool players acquire injuries Daniel Agger was carried off after a head injury and Ryan Babel had trouble with his ankle and was replaced by Benayoun. The first half saw very little excitement as both sides gave away very few chances. The closest to a goal was when Martin Skrtel headed the ball towards the goal to see Shay Given pull out an excellent save to deny him.
The second half saw Nedum Onuoha making his first appearance for Manchester City this season. After just five minutes, Liverpool took the lead when Martin Skrtel headed the ball into the goal from a free-kick from Steven Gerard. There-on the match was full of excitement. Mark Hughes brought in Carlos Tevez for Gareth Barry in the 61st minute looking to put pressure on Liverpool. Manchester City added immense pressure on Liverpool and it gave in when Adebayor’s header found the net from Bellamy’s corner in the 69th minute. City took the lead 7 minutes later when Tevez and Wright-Phillips worked well to create a chance for Stephen Ireland – who looked marginally offside – to flick the ball past the keeper. City’s lead was short lived as Benayoun equalized just 74 seconds later. The score remained 2-2 at the full-time whistle and City will take just a point from this match but it could have been so much better.
